Hola! How is everyone doing? This is Akane, buried in mountains of homework and tests lately.

Well our theme today will be the amazing New York!

I got the chance to go to New York a while ago¡ÄI think the beginning of April in 2010 (4 day stay?).

It was for a trip through orchestra, so we went with a big group of about 50 (& instruments)!
After about 2, 3 hours on the plane we finally reached the world famous New York.

O.M.G. Times Square was such an amazing place. The atmosphere could not be captured by just pictures and videos.

The next thing up is Ellis Island.
For those of you that are not good with history¡Ä

Back in the days where it had only been a short amount of time since the United States became an independent country, many immigrants from all over the world entered the new country.
During that time, immigrants from Asia had to go through Angel Island, and those from Europe had to go through Ellis Island. There at Ellis Island, they still keep the names of those immigrants that passed through many years ago.

On the way to Ellis Island by ferry, you also pass right in front of Statue of Liberty!!

Last but not least, a place that is not as popular as the other places introduced but was just as significant in the trip; STARDUST Diner.

The food there was¡Äordinary. Ordinary hamburgers you might even be able to top off here in Tempe. However, the waitress/waiters are what make it worth it. They perform many popular songs as you are eating!!

HOWEVER¡Ä

We did not get into any serious trouble (maybe because we were such a big group) but it is NEW YORK, some entertainers at the side of the street demand money.

It is not recommended to approach them if you are unsure of their policy, especially if you are not in a big group, or have any men within the group.

ANOTHER THING¡Ä

Compared to Tempe, there are MANY people in New York that tries to steal wallets or expensive stuff from others. And they are PROS; you may not even notice.

Instead of backpacks, or purses with big mouths for easy access, try to carry around a bag with zippers, and maybe a shoulder-bag so that you can have it out in front where you can see it.

NEVER leave your bag hanging from the back of the chair ANYWHERE (like restaurants, etc.).

Also remember to keep cell phones and wallets (especially guys) AWAY from back pockets where it is an easy target.

LASTLY¡Ä

Those people that steal from others usually target tourists.

Keep an eye out even when you are taking pictures, and try not to spread out maps when you are in a crowded area.

New York can be a place for great time, but it can turn into a dangerous place instantaneously.

If anyone has the chance to visit there, I hope everyone will search thoroughly about the area, and have enough knowledge prepared beforehand.

I'm at Buffalo, NY to visit my boyfriend and I'm missing the weather in Tempe already,,,

As all of you know, A huge earthquake did hit the pasific coast of northern part of Japan, and several thousands of people wdied OR are missing still...


Because of this massive natural disaster,the trains, electicity, and gas were stopped temporarily.
Since I am in here, I do not know how devastated that situation in Japan is, but as far as I watched news channels in the U.S, Tunami was like swallowing houses and cars.

I hope those who are missing can be found and rescued as soon as possible, and all the countries kindly give us their hands.
